Luminit makes fine optical products for commercial and government customers. We are seeking a talented, enthusiastic and highly motivated Laser Technician to join our Mastering Department. You will join a diverse staff and help support the production of our cutting-edge Light Shaping Diffuser products. A successful candidate has concrete and demonstrable hands-on skills working with optics and lasers.


  • Under some supervision, build and test optical assemblies and set up laser systems to meet performance specifications

  • Align lasers and optical components

  • Use optical, mechanical, and electrical tools and test equipment for measurement, alignment, and testing

  • Assist production personnel with daily builds and troubleshooting

  • Maintain and troubleshoot laser equipment

  • Conduct incoming, in-process and outgoing quality inspections

  • Collect and evaluate test data to ensure process control and product quality based on specific procedures and processes

  • Maintain data systems to record and report test results


  • Experience with laser operation, safety, alignment and testing of laser assemblies

  • Knowledge and experience of working in, and maintaining a clean room

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Capable of working independently and in a team


  • General education in lasers and optics.

  • Optical lens handling, alignment, and assembly procedures

  • Familiarity with mechanical assembly alignment

  • Familiarity with benchtop optical prototyping and lasers

  • Use of digital multimeters, micrometers, calipers, microscopes

  • Basic computer skills – Email, MS Word, MS Excel


  • Ability to read, comprehend and write in English 

  • Ability to read and understand technical descriptions and work instructions, document experimental results, and write short correspondence and memos

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group settings to superiors and other employees


  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision. Must be able to work with chemicals such as acetone, alcohol, adhesives, etc.
