Luminit LLC is a leading provider of optics for lighting, automotive, and display applications.  Luminit is looking for a Mechanical/Document Control Engineer.   This position reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.  The selected candidate would be expected to perform as an individual contributor, working closely with Sales and Manufacturing. 

We are looking for candidates who are creative, energetic team players who excel in a fast-paced, hands-on environment. The person will lead our Document Control, controlling drawings and issuing new part numbers, deploying our PDM system across other company functions, managing our PDM and Solid Works CAD infrastructure, and maintaining our Solid Works and PDM licenses current. In addition, he/she will develop and improve manufacturing tooling and automation used in our optical recording and replication processes.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Control drawing revisions and part numbering system

  • Manage PDM and CAD infrastructure for optimum usage

  • Deploy PDM across company functions

  • Design, develop, and refine tooling for volume manufacturing processes and help qualify and maintain automated equipment

    • Drive changes in the tooling design to allow for improved automated processes

  • Develop new tooling and automation with inputs from a cross-functional team

    • Design tooling and automation for products and assemblies using knowledge of opto-mechanical function, electronic controls, actuators, mechanical systems, and operator interfaces

    • Identify and specify best in class automated equipment for purchased equipment

    • Develop equipment acceptance tests and collaborate with vendors to modify equipment as needed

Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of industry experience in Document Control and design of tooling and automation for consumer electronics, or optical systems is preferred.

  • Experience with Solid Works and Solid Works PDM (preferred), FMEA, tolerance analysis, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GDT)

  • Design experience with complete machine/system design

  • Experience in designing tooling and automation for manufacturing

  • Experience with the production ramp of a high-volume product in factories in the US and Globally

  • Versed in 6 sigma concepts

  • Skilled in data analysis and process qualification


B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline and five years of engineering experience in Document Control and tooling/automation.
