Luminit LLC is a leading provider of micro-optics for lighting, automotive, and display applications located in Torrance, California. Luminit is looking for a Product Engineer who reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager. You will join a diverse staff and help to support the prototyping and production of our new and cutting-edge products for our customers.

The position includes interaction with Sales, R&D, QA and Manufacturing to gather requirements, build solutions, resolve issues, and document processes and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Must become familiar with customer requirements
  • Participate in the NPI process
  • Define, verify, and release components through ERP based on customer requirements
  • Evaluate, specify test performance for updating current or future products specifications
  • Provide continued component support for existing products
  • Engineering documentation to support production of products
  • Understand BOM’s (Bill of Materials) and Routes for products
  • Perform cost analysis to aid in sales quotations
  • Continue standardization effort for product offering
  • Aid in identifying new suppliers for any new materials
  • Evaluate, write, and implement engineering change orders (ECO) for existing products
  • Participate in dispositioning of nonconformances (Material Review Board)
  • Drive failure analyses and design of experiments (DOEs) to develop design solutions and implement corrective actions
  • Participate in continuous improvement of product realization processes
  • Help in quality defect evaluation and internal escalation/coordination
  • Assist in internal quality investigations and CAPAs

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering documents such as datasheets, drawings, specifications, and procedures
  • Knowledge of component regulatory requirements such as RoHS and Reach
  • Knowledge of standard quality tools including 5-Why, Fishbone Analysis, 8D, Controls Plans, and FMEA
  • Basic understanding of statistical techniques including Cpk, GR&R, and sampling plans
  • Understanding of metrics, process capabilities, databases, data collection and analysis
  • 2D/3D CAD experience is a plus

EXPERIENCE

  • Understanding product configurations and standard product features
  • GD&T experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of Tradeoff Analysis, DOE, SPC, or CP/CPK techniques.
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), and Design for Assembly (DFA)
  • Experience with fragile parts and parts with tight tolerances
  • Ability to communicate efficiently with multi-functional team members and be able to efficiently collaborate to achieve project goals

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor of Science degree and 3+ years of relevant industry experience

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision. Must be able to work with optical products and chemicals such as: acetone, alcohol, adhesives, acids, etc.
