Dr. Seth Coe-Sullivan Joins Luminit’s Expanding Management Team

Serving as the company’s Vice President of Technology, Dr. Coe-Sullivan will align new technologies with emerging market needs.

TORRANCE, CA – January 27, 2016 – Luminit LLC, a privately held high technology company specializing in holographic Light Shaping Diffusers®, announces the appointment of Dr. Seth Coe-Sullivan as Vice President of Technology. Dr. Coe-Sullivan’s primary role will be to transition Luminit’s existing holographic technologies into commercial products, as well as to develop new technologies for commercial and government customers.

An expert in quantum dot materials and devices for solid state lighting and displays, Dr. Coe-Sullivan received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He holds numerous patents relating to quantum dots and organic light emitting devices (OLEDs) and is a frequent invited speaker and conference chair on the subject. His doctoral thesis led to the formation of QD Vision, a leader in quantum dot technology for displays, where he remains a board member, science advisor, and CTO-Emeritus. Dr. Coe-Sullivan’s proven ability to bring markets and technologies together makes him an ideal fit for Luminit’s long-term goals.

Luminit Adds Direction Turning Film to Its Expanding Line of Light-bending Products

Allowing a 20° shift in the angle of a light source, Luminit Direction Turning Film offers lighting designers and engineers more flexibility on how and where a light beam is directed.

TORRANCE, CA – September 1, 2015 – Luminit LLC, a privately held high technology company specializing in custom and standard holographic light shaping diffusers, introduces Direction Turning Film (DTF) to its growing line of optical technologies and products. The unique light-bending film enables off-axis placement of an incoming beam to create an optimal angle for the viewer and provides a simple solution to lighting challenges.

“Our Direction Turning Film solves a number of lighting and display challenges faced by engineers and designers,” notes Suleyman Turgut, Director of Sales at Luminit, LLC. “DTF allows more beam control and can produce dramatic results particularly when used on downward recessed lighting to achieve more wall washing.”

Ideal for LED light sources that utilize secondary optics, DTF includes microscopic, asymmetrical prismatic structures embedded on the film that change the light beam direction. Unlike Luminit’s Light Shaping Diffusers (LSDs) that use micro-surface structures to achieve high performance diffusion, VLSD incorporates volumetric diffusion technology for diffusing recessed down lights, troffers, lighting pendants, and other types of ceiling fixtures.

“The LED lighting market has been asking for a high performance rigid diffuser at a competitive price and we are excited to be able to offer them a solution now,” comments Suleyman Turgut, Director of Sales at Luminit. “Designers will appreciate how versatile VSLD is and how well the technology performs on ceiling fixtures.”

Luminit Introduces Cost-Saving Edge-lit Uniformity Tape to the LED Display and Lighting Markets

With a transmission greater than 88%, EUT allows display and lighting manufacturers to achieve better uniformity and brighter displays and fixtures without increasing the number of LEDs.

TORRANCE, CA – September 2, 2015 – Luminit LLC, a privately held high technology company specializing in custom and standard holographic light shaping diffusers, adds Edge-lit Uniformity Tape (EUT) to its unique lineup of Light Shaping Diffusers®. An inexpensive and effective solution for solving common problems associated with widely-spaced LEDs, EUT uses Luminit’s patented diffusion technology that transforms and improves light for a brighter, more uniform panels.

“The more LEDs placed within a display, the better the uniformity will be,” notes Suleyman Turgut, Director of Sales at Luminit, LLC. “The down side to this is an increase in the bill of materials. Our Edge-lit Uniformity Tape achieves better uniformity without increasing the number of LED lights which can result in significant cost savings for manufacturers.”

Luminit’s Ede-Lit Uniformity Tape uses an optically clear adhesive backing that can easily be applied directly to the side of the light guide plate during the assembly process. On the tape facing the light source are highly elliptical LSD microstructures that spread the light to reduce hot spots, dark spots and other non-uniform characteristics that can be visible on the edges of LED flat panel TVs and edge-lit lighting fixtures.

According to Luminit, optical characteristics of EUT include a transmission frequency greater than 88% and lighting panel uniformity greater than 80%. Light spread angle is +/- 70° from the normal. EUT is available in 50-meter rolls and widths ranging from 2.8mm to 7.8mm.
