Automotive Applications

Luminit designed optics and Light Shaping Diffusers are used for reading lights, map lights, interior lights, dashboard lighting and displays in automobiles. Many of the same technologies that were developed for aircraft/avionics usage are migrating to automobile applications. Heads-up displays and taillights are now being shown in concept cars using holographic diffuser structures. LED lighting is very important in the automobile market due to the energy, design and maintenance savings realized by the long life of the LEDs. It is estimated that there are over 100 LEDs in each new automobile today and this will increase to 500 per automobile by 2010. Newer brighter LEDs typically require sophisticated diffusers.
